The Azurians
1.   The Azurians are a cold blooded species and have a natural lifespan of around 100 years.

2.   They have a tough hide-like skin with hard facial ridges. Their skin is usually some shade of blue although colours close by in the colour spectrum are not entirely unusual. Facial ridges are usually a somewhat different shade of the main skin colour.

3.   They are generally very sturdily built and stand around 6 feet 5 inches (192.5cm) tall. Heads and hands tend to be larger than human proportions. It is not unusual for heads to have small horn like protuberances from the top or rear. Such protuberances are normally the same colour as the rest of their skin.  Most have clumps of fairly coarse hair growing from their heads or necks. They commonly have only four digits on hands and feet.

4.   They are a very hardy species that can withstand extremes of both hot and cold weather without any noticeable discomfort. They are not prone to natural diseases and tend to live to old age unless they die first from unnatural causes! They eat and drink almost anything but do so only twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. They do not eat or drink to excess and keep their physical trim and vigour right until the end of their lifespans.

5.   They are not a particularly numerous species as they only breed twice in their normal lifespan, once at around fifty years of age and once at around seventy years of age. They produce a reasonable proportion of magic users (fantasy settings) and psi adepts (sci-fi setting) some of whom can be quite talented and extremely powerful.

6.   There are two main sub-species the Az and the Ur.

7.   The Az are effectively the high caste members of Azurian society producing most of the leaders, magic users and officers. There are three genders of Az. Males and females predominate but there are also androgynes who can mate with either males or females. Almost all magic users, psi adepts and similar professions (such as scientists and medics) are androgynes. Male Az tend to be a little larger than the other two genders and all three genders have somewhat different head types. Male heads tend to be longer, female ones blockier and androgynes have scalier skin and what looks like a small tube on either side of their snout. You can see an example of each gender here.

8.   The Ur are effectively the low caste members of Azurian society and provide most of the foot soldiers and ordinary workers. Urs are either male or female. There is no record of them ever producing an androgyne. Both male and female Ur are similar in size to male Az. Their heads are slightly larger than the Az and have more ridges running up their snouts between their eyes. Males tend to have neck hair and females have hair growing from the tops of their heads. You can an example of both genders here.
