The 2009 Creative Events
The idea : As a family we love looking at all sorts of creative endeavours, particularly artwork, painted figures and sculpted figures. And as a family we’d like to do our little bit to encourage those of all levels of ability to create the artwork, painted figures and sculpts that we so enjoy looking at. Our way of doing this will be to provide a series of regular opportunities for those who love creating artwork or jewelry, painting figures and sculpting figures to showcase their skills and gain a modicum of free publicity. And along the way we’ll provide them with the opportunity to win a modest prize for themselves and to do a bit of good for a very worthy cause.

A regular opportunity : We’ll try to run two or three online events a year if there is sufficient interest.

Free publicity : Just send us a photo (around 500 pixels x 500 pixels) of your artwork or jewelcraft or at least a couple of photos of your painted or sculpted figure and we’ll pop them into one of our viewing galleries for the duration of the event in question. We’ll identify you (or your company) by name and if you want to indicate that your item is for sale you can. Anonymity is not required. So you can show the work elsewhere on the net, put it on sale, auction it on ebay, or enter it in other competitions even while our event is still live. Whatever turns you on!

Modest prizes : £50 GBP to the winner : £30 GBP for second place : £15 GBP for third place.

A bit of good : We’ll also donate £50 GBP to Children in Need on the winner’s behalf. And we’ll donate £1 to Children in Need on behalf of each person who enters up to a maximum of £50.

Who can enter? : Anyone at all. A staff professional entering on behalf of a big company, a freelance professional entering for a smaller firm (including ourselves) or on his own behalf or any kind of enthusiastic amateur. Everyone is most welcome whether they are already a creative superstar or an absolute beginner. Child or adult. In fact anyone who will get a buzz out of seeing their creative efforts on the internet! The important thing is to have a little fun and do a little good.

How many entries? : No more than two per person in any event.

New Work or Existing Pieces? : We like both so you can submit anything that hasn’t already been entered in one of our events. And we don’t mind if it’s been entered in (or even won) other competitions run by other people in the past. If you want to showcase it again you can do so here

What subject matter? : Again just about anything you like. If it’s artwork it can be a portrait, a landscape, a seascape, a still life, a caricature, a cartoon, a manga or anime type character or a design for a miniature figure. Something real or something you’ve imagined. Something from history, something from fantasy, something from science fiction or something completely abstract. Any kind of jewelry is fine and if it’s a painted figure or a sculpt it can be from any genre you like. We don’t mind. The choice is entirely yours!

What medium if it’s artwork? : Just abut anything you like. You can create it in a traditional way on canvas with oils or with watercolours or with acrylics or on a sketchpad with charcoal, pencil or ink. If you use a traditional method you’ll also need to photograph it to e-mail your entry to us. Or you can create it digitally in some apprpriate software such as photoshop or the like. The choice is entirely yours!

The judges : The Newbold Ladies (Doreen, Natasha & Vicky) and other family members ( Helen, Robert, Roo & Mark) will tell you which entries they like best. They don’t know anything at all about art, jewelry, painted figures or sculpts other than what they like so there’s absolutely no need to be upset if you don’t win! The Ladies have disqualified Ian from judging as he knows some of the people who may enter and is rumoured to be incredibly biased!

Results of the 1st 2009 Event : It closed on 31 March 2009 and our judges declared UK artist Claire Wallis as the winner with her entry The Mallard. Congratulations to Claire and many thanks to all the entrants for supporting our event and Children in Need. You can see all the super entries here.

Details of the 2nd 2009 Event : To be announced!
