The idea : As a family we love
looking at and arguing about all sorts of
artwork. And as a family we’d like to
do our little bit to encourage artists of
all levels of ability to create the artwork
that we so enjoy looking at. Our way of
doing this will be to provide a series of
regular opportunities for those who love
creating artwork to showcase their skills
and gain a modicum of free publicity. And
along the way we’ll provide them with
the opportunity to win a modest prize for
themselves and to do a bit of good for a
very worthy cause.
A regular opportunity : We’ll try to run
four online events a year if there is
sufficient interest.
Free publicity : Just send us a
photo (around 500 pixels x 500 pixels) of
your artwork and we’ll pop it into
one of our viewing galleries for the
duration of the event in question.
We’ll identify you by name and if you
want to indicate that your piece of artwork
is for sale we’ll quote a price and
provide a contact number.
A modest prize : £50 GBP to the
winner.
A bit of good : We’ll donate a
second £50 to Children in Need on the
winner’s behalf. And we’ll
donate £1 to Children in Need on
behalf of each person who enters up to a
maximum of £50.
Who can enter? : Anyone at all. Any
level of ability. Professional or amateur.
Child or adult. In fact anyone who will get
a buzz out of seeing their artwork on the
internet!
What medium? : Just abut anything you
like. You can create it in a traditional
way on canvas with oils or with
watercolours or with acrylics or on a
sketchpad with charcoal, pencil or ink. If
you use a traditional method you’ll
also need to photograph it to e-mail your
entry to us. Or you can create it digitally
in some apprpriate software such as
photoshop or the like. The choice is
entirely yours!
What subject matter? : Again just about
anything you like. A portrait, a landscape,
a seascape, a still life, a caricature, a
cartoon, a manga or anime type character or
a design for a miniature figure. Something
real or something you’ve imagined.
Something from history, something from
fantasy, something from science fiction or
something completely abstract. We
don’t mind. The choice is entirely
yours!
How many entries? : No more than two per
artist in any given event.
Deadline for
Entries for 4th 2008 Event : 30th November 2008 but
the earlier you get them in the longer they
will be on display!
Gallery for Viewing
Entries for 4th 2008 Event : You can see the early
entries here.
Deadline for Results of
4th 2008 Event : Judges
will have picked a winner by 31st December
2008.
The judges : The Newbold Ladies
(Doreen, Natasha & Vicky) and other
family members ( Helen, Robert, Roo &
Mark) will tell you which entry they like
best. They don’t know anything at all
about art other than what they like so
there’s absolutely no need to be
upset if you don’t win! The Ladies
have disqualified Ian from judging as he
knows some of the artists likely to enter
and may be biased!
Results of the First
Three Events : Many
congratulations to Pat Coward for winning
our Inaugral Event with Cat & Blue
Curtain and to Maya Morland for winning our
2nd Event with The Wrestlers and to
AndrewAnimation for winning our 3rd Event
with Lilith. And very many thanks to
everyone who supported our good cause by
entering and giving all three of them such
hard fights. The judges were very pleased
with the diversity and exceedingly high
quality of all the entries and all of them
commented on how tough it was to make a
decision. Hope to see more of
everyone’s artwork in the current
event! You can still admire all the super
entries in our first three events here & here and here.
Eye Candy : We commissioned digital
artist Brendan Keeley to paint us a fun
picture of one of our favourite miniatures,
the snowman Anonymous Bodge, to liven up
the menu page of each of our Artwork
Viewing Galleries. Brendan most nobly
donated his fee for this commission to our
good cause so please be sure to give
Anonymous a smile every time you come
across him!
